Abstract
This paper examines conflicts involving reference librarian ethics and their relationship to recently published views relating to peer review and the scholarly communication system. The case study based on the gap between promotional rhetoric and the actual peer review in the editorial practices of the Lexicon of the Middle Ages is presented.
