Abstract
The purpose of this study is investigate the mediating effect of health in a relationship between satisfaction with social, leisure, and cultural activities and life satisfaction among senior citizens who live alone. For this research purpose, data from 2017 National Survey of the Living Conditions and Welfare Needs of Older Koreans were used. The survey duration was between June 12 and August 28 in 2017. In the actual analysis, data of 2,426 senior citizens over the age of 65 who were living alone were used. In the analysis results, a partial mediating effect of health was observed in the relationship between satisfaction with social, leisure, and cultural activities and life satisfaction among the senior citizens living alone. Based on the study results, this paper proposed the following implications aimed at improving the life satisfaction of senior citizens living alone. First, social efforts are required to enhance the satisfaction with social, leisure, and cultural activities of senior citizens living alone. Second, this paper suggested development of social, leisure, and cultural activity programs that can increase the rate of practicing exercise among the senior citizens living alone.
