Abstract
This study has a purpose of examining the effect of the nutritional status of the poor elderly on their depression. For this purpose, data from the 2017 National Survey of the Living Conditions and Welfare Needs of Older Korean were used. The Survey was designed by two-stage stratified sampling with a survey period between June 12 and August 28 in 2017. In this study, data of 819 poor elderly people over the age of 65 were used. For the analysis of research data, SPSS statistical package version 27.0 was used. To test the research hypotheses, multivariate regression analysis was implemented. In the analysis results, among the sub-factors of the nutritional status of the poor elderly, Eating poor fruits, vegetables and milk, Tooth loss mouth pain, Economic hardship, Reduced social contact, multiple medicines, Involuntary weight loss/gain, and Needs assistance in self-care demonstrated was proven to have an impact on depression. Based on the results, this paper proposed several practical and political implications, including provision of customized diet for the management of the nutritional status of the poor elderly, nutrition-related education, reduction of out-of-pocket expense for implant surgery, operation of movable food market, promotion of education related to balanced diet, and operation of medicine-taking consulting program.
