Abstract
The behavior of a carpet composed of two layers is studied. The vibration measurements of the panel with or without the carpet describes that it works as well as viscous damping. We have developed an FE model of the carpet that is based on spring, mass and damper system. The FE model is checked by parameter study and prediction of the behavior of another carpet. And the model is also applied to predict the change of structure-borne noise transmission of an L-shaped structure due to the placement of the carpet using FEM combined with SEA. A part of an automotive car body is also used to test the FE model.
