Abstract
Co-packaged optics modules have been studied and developed for increasing transmission capacity and reducing power consumption in optical communication systems. In this paper, we propose a laser-diode driver (LDD) with variable output impedance for improving the quality of transmitted signal. The post-layout simulation results of the designed LDD using 65-nm CMOS process reveal that the variable output impedance from $50 \Omega$ to $100 \Omega$ is obtained, which is enough to compensate impedance mismatching. We also verify that the designed LDD operates at 28 Gb/s with the variable output impedance.
