Abstract
This article presents the case study of a 41-year-old man admitted to the hospital due to abdominal pain, nausea, and an elevated serum creatinine level. An acute rise in the serum creatinine level during a period of hours or days is indicative of acute renal failure or acute kidney injury. In a patient, such as this, with volume depletion because of gastroenteritis and decreased fluid intake, it is possible that the NSAIDs he took could have precipitated the acute tubular injury while also being responsible for the glomerular defects. He was diagnosed with acute tubular injury/necrosis and glomerular podocyte injury, both caused by NSAIDs in association with dehydration.
