Abstract
•Exposure to tobacco during pregnancy may impact offspring cognitive development.•There are no meta-analyzes on the consequences of smoking on the intelligence quotient (IQ).•The pooled estimate showed lower IQ scores on individuals exposed to maternal smoking.•Further studies on the subject are encouraged, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
