Abstract
1. An unusual case of absolute polycythemia associated with hypoxemia, probably resulting from abnormal function of the respiratory center has been presented. 2. The mechanism of development of this type of polycythemia has been discussed. 3. A classification of polycythemia on the basis of blood volume and arterial oxygen saturation has been suggested.
