•Strong antileishmanial effect of cisplatin-bonded carbon nanotubes (CP-CNT).•Antileishmanial effect of CP-CNT was significantly greater than Glucantime®and free cisplatin.•Multi-walled CP-CNT but not single-walled CP-CNT were selectively toxic to the Leishmaniaparasite.
