Abstract
In this passionate call to action given at the Gulangyu Poetry Festival in Xiamen, the poet Lü Yue argues for a truly modern Chinese poetics, one that can finally escape the gravitational pull of the classical tradition's rural imaginary, and open a space of resistance to power in all its corrupting manifestations. Lü calls for a poetry that places the heaviest objects on one side of the scale and the lightest and most vulnerable on the other side, and has the audacity to challenge the laws of gravity now and forever.
