Abstract
The Shearwater Field is located some 200km East of Aberdeen in 90 meters of water in the Central Graben Area of the Central North Sea, and is part of the P188 License. The license holders are Shell UK Exploration and Production (28%) the Operator, Esso Exploration and Production UK Ltd (28%), ARCO British (27.5%) and Superior and Canadian Superior (Mobil)(16.5%). Located some 15,000 feet below the sea bed, the reservoir is a High Pressure, 1,000 bar, High Temperature, 180 C (HP/HT) gas condensate reservoir, with a ratio of 170 barrels of condensate per MMscf, with a 30ppm hydrogen sulfide (H{sub 2}S) and 3% carbon dioxide (CO{sub 2}) content and a high salinity aquifer. Initial production will be from the Main Block Fulmar reserves (309 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE)) with peak production rates of 425 MMscfd of sales quality gas and 80 Mbbl oil/d (MBOPD) of a high vapor pressure condensate. The selected development concept required that a Well Head Jacker (WHJ) be installed prior to the start of development drilling (July 1997) and that the development wells be completed prior to or soon after the start of production. A combined processing and quarters platform will be installed in early 2000 with gas being exported via the 34 inch Shearwater Elgin Area Line (SEAL) pipeline to Bacton with the condensate being exported via the Forties Pipeline System. Production is scheduled to commence in July 2000. The total development cost of the Shearwater field and associated export systems is some $1.4 billion US.
