Survival Analysis of Deceased Donor Organ Transplantation in a Third World Country

Abstract
Kidney: In Kerala, there are 22 kidney transplant centres, of which government medical college, Trivandrum has conducted the most number of deceased donor kidney transplant in the state (72 transplants).• The study shows that 34.4% of the donors were aged between 46-60 years. 31% were in the age group of 31-45 years. 29.1% were in the age group of 16-30. Only 1.6% were from more than 60 age group.• 41.8% of the recipient belongs to 31-45 years. 34.8% of the recipient belongs to 46-60 years. Remaining 21.1% of the recipient belongs to 16-30 years and 1.2 % belonged to the age group 15 or less. KIDNEY PATIENT & GRAFT SURVIVAL: • Out of 408 patients, 348 are alive. The survival rate of renal transplantation after cadaver transplant in Kerala is 85.3% for the time period of 2012-2016.out of 408 patients, 291 (76%) are male recipients and 117 (24%) are female recipients.• The five-year valid kidney transplant survival rate is 85.3%. Assuming 95% confidence, the mean kidney transplant survival time ranges between 1298.886 days and 1408.726 days.Liver: In Kerala, there are 10 liver transplant centres and the highest number of deceased donor liver transplant was performed by aims, Cochin (60 transplants).• The study shows that 29.2 % (56) of the donors were aged between 16-30 years. 26.6% (51) were in the age group of 31-45 years and 46-60 yrs. Only 5.2 % (10) of the donors were from age 15 or less.• While assessing the recipient age 53.6 % (104) of the recipient belongs to the age group of 46-60 years. Only 1.2 % (2) of the recipients belonged to the age group of 15 or less.(Figure is included in full-text article.) LIVER PATIENT GRAFT SURVIVAL: • Out of 194 patients, 150 are alive. The survival rate of deceased donor liver transplant in Kerala is 77.3% for the time period of 2012-2016.• The five-year valid liver transplant survival rate is 77.3%. Assuming 95% confidence, the mean liver transplant survival time ranges between 1136.501 days and 1323.475 days.Heart: There are 11 active heart transplant centres in Kerala. The most number of heart transplants performed by Lisie Hospital, Ernakulam. (19 transplants).• The study shows that 45.5% (15) of the donors were aged between 30 or less than 30 years. 27.3 % (9) of the donors were aged between 31-45 years and more than 45 years.• By assessing the gender of the donors, 84.8(28) % (28) of the donors were male and 15.2% (5) were females.• While assessing the recipient age 42.4 % (14) of the recipients belong to 40 or more than 40 years. 33.3 % (11) of the recipients aged between 31-45 years. HEART PATIENT GRAFT SURVIVAL: Out of 33 recipients, 24 are alive. The survival rate of deceased donor heart transplant in Kerala is 72.7% for the time period of 2012-2016.The five-year cumulative heart transplant survival rate is 72.7%. Assuming 95% confidence, the mean heart transplant survival time ranges between 744.735 days and 1144.896 days.(Figure is included in full-text article.)
