Abstract
This chapter concludes the book. The authors summarize the book’s argument and present its implications for the study of Russia and authoritarian regimes more generally. As the book demonstrated, food and food independence are crucial for the functioning and survival of Putin’s regime and Russia’s ability to engage in a protracted conflict against the West and a war against Ukraine. The chapter also discusses the likely future development of autocratic nutritional independence policies in Russia and beyond and presents the long-term challenges of climate change and inherent weaknesses of autarky for Putin’s nutritional independence project in the medium and long term.
