Sheng Dashi was an official, poet and painter who wrote a two-volume treatise on aesthetics entitled Qishan Woyou Lu, which appeared in 1822. Typically of the writings of literati painters from the period, it was a rather shapeless collection of the most varied pieces lacking in both intellectual rigour and organisation.
