Abstract
Recently, as Korea enters an aging society, interest in aging is increasing due to the prolonged life of old age after retirement. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the perception of aging in late middle-aged adults and the direction in which research related to aging should proceed. To this end, from 2010 to 2020, focusing on domestic papers within the last ten years, we investigated the change in perception of aging. Among 408 papers on aging perception, 14 dissertations focusing on changes in aging perception and seven journal articles were analyzed. As a result, perception of aging was classified into three sub-domains, of which physical degradation was the highest recognition factor for aging in the physical domain. It was also found to recognize aging most when feeling left out and depressed in the psychological domain, and to recognize aging most when there is social status/role loss and interpersonal change in the social domain. Although no significant difference has been found in studies over the past decade in perceptions of post-middle-age aging, we hope that continuous studies on perception of aging will help late middle-aged adults prepare for their aging more effectively. Lastly, we have suggestions in conclusion.
