Abstract
The purpose of this study is to in-depth explore the experience and perception of the process of teaching disabled students to participate in competitive sports competitions by adapted physical education teachers working in high schools. This study was conducted as a phenomenological study. Documents and documents related to in-depth interviews, participation observation, and sports competitions were collected and analyzed. As a result of the study, teachers decided to participate in the Special Olympics to provide students with various opportunities for experience. In the practice process, students lacked basic physical strength and athletic skills, and maladjustment behavior occurred due to excessive competition during the competition. However, through the competition, students experienced new emotions, interacted naturally with their peers, felt a sense of accomplishment, and showed positive changes in school life. In order for disabled students tocontinue to participate in sports competitions in the future, it was found that manpower and budget support, attention and support from managers, parents, and local community organizations are needed.
