중국 삼국지문화의 주요한 한 대목이 관우문화이다. 관우는 청대부터 여러 가지 요인으로 인해 신(神)으로 추존되고 있는데, 이 중『삼국연의(三國演義)』에서 창출된 이상적 인물 형상이 하나의 핵심 요인이 되어 그 토대를 마련한 것이라 하겠다. 소설의 서사과정을 통해 관우형상은 장수로서의 용맹에다 유가 문인과도 같은 의인적 이미지를 겸비한 중국인들의 보편적 정서에 부합하는 완벽한 이상적 인물이 된다. 이런 이상적 인물형상 조성을 위해 서사과정에 여러 가지 서술방법과 기교가 활용되고 있다. 서술방법으로 역사에 근거한 서술, 이야기의 배경 서술 등이 있다. 관우 인물형상을 묘사 서술한 대목의 큰 틀은 상당 부분이 허구적 서술보다 역사에 근거한 서술을 먼저 하고 있고, 또한 관우 관련 핵심 이야기를 본격적으로 서술하기 전에 그 이야기의 배경을 앞서 서술하여 핵심이야기의 집중도와 가치를 높여주고 있다. 서술기교로는 시가의 활용, 회화적 묘사 등이 있다. 관우 인물의 형상적 특징을 세밀히 묘사한 대목은 시가의 운문적 특징을 활용하여 형상적 이미지를 강화하고 있고, 또 회화적 묘사를 통해 관우 인물형상의 예술적 품격을 높여주고 있다. 이런 서술방법과 기교를 통해 세밀하게 그 형상이 구체적으로 창출되어져 마침내 용맹무쌍한 한 장수가 완벽한 이상적인 인물로 탄생된 것이다. 이런 이미지는 관우를 대표적인 민족적 인물로 만들어 마침내 사람을 뛰어넘어 신으로 추존되게 하는 한 요인이 되었다고 하겠다.
The special part of the “GuanYu Culture” in China is the phenomenon of GuanYu Worship. Some special figure image of the GuanYu in the “GuanYu Culture” is characterized in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』. The phenomenon of the GuanYu Worship is caused by so many factors. One of the major factors is the literary character by the writer’s narration in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』. The character of GuanYu in the the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』 have concerned the phenomenon of the GuanYu Worship. The major thesis of this paper is the narrative method and technique for the GuanYu image. The characterized main image of GuanYu in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』 have two characters. One is the righteous person image of the Confucianist, another one is heroic figure image of the general. The novel 『SanGuoYanYi』 is consist of big story which have so many short story for the GuanYu image. The righteous person and heroic general images of GuanYu characterized by some narrative description in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』. The narrative method in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』 have two parts, which have ‘narration based on history’, ‘narration of story background’. The narrative technique in the novel 『SanGuoYanYi』 also have two parts, which have ‘application of poetry’ and ‘description of painting’.
