넷플릭스 드라마 <스위트홈> 스토리텔링 연구 : 크리처 캐릭터를 중심으로 / A Study on the Storytelling of Netflix Drama - Focused on the creature character

Abstract
2021년 넷플릭스 오리지널 한국 드라마 의 전 세계적 열풍은 한국 드라마의 높아진 경쟁력과 달라진 위상을 보여줬다. 2016년 넷플릭스의 한국 상륙으로 한국 드라마는 변화의 틀을 마련했고 2019년부터 공개된 넷플릭스 오리지널 한국 드라마는 국내 방송사에서 시도하지 못했던 대담하고 획기적인 기획과 글로벌 유통 플랫폼의 이점으로 잠재력을 폭발시켰다. 2020년 공개된 넷플릭스 오리지널 한국 드라마 은 한국 드라마 사상 최초로 크리처를 본격 등장시켜 한국 드라마의 잠재력을 깨우고 아시아 뿐 아니라 서구의 시청자들에게도 좋은 반응을 얻었다. 이에 본 연구는 의 스토리텔링을 넷플릭스 오리지널 드라마의 흥행 전략과 크리처 캐릭터를 활용한 드라마의 서사 전략 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석 방법은 첫째, 넷플릭스 오리지널 아시아 드라마 분석으로 도출한 3가지 전략인 글로컬 특징, 엔터테인먼트 특징, 시즌제 특징을 분석틀로 적용하여 에 나타난 넷플릭스 오리지널 드라마로서의 특징을 밝히고 둘째, 의 핵심 캐릭터인 인간의 욕망이 변이된 크리처가 형성하는 갈등의 행위력 및 캐릭터의 서사 구축 방법 그리고 파국 서사를 만드는 크리처의 메시지적 기능을 밝히는 것이다. 연구 결과, 은 한(恨)의 심리를 지닌 등장인물들이 정(情)의 문화를 보여주는 에피소드와 한국사회 문제점들로 구성된 사건, 크리처라는 글로벌 인기 소재와 욕망이라는 보편적 정서로 글로컬리티를 구현하고, 공포물과 액션물이라는 장르적 특징을 살리는 파격적 연출로 엔터테인먼트 요소를 확보했으며 미스터리 요소와 멀티 캐스팅 전략으로 이야기 확장성을 만들어 시즌제의 가능성을 만들었다. 또한 ‘인간의 욕망에 잠식당해 크리처가 만들어진다’는 모티프를 설정하여 크리처 캐릭터로서 유발할 수 있는 갈등 요소를 극대화함으로써 내적 갈등 뿐 아니라 인간 대 인간, 인간 대 사회, 인간 대 세상 혹은 인간 대 자연 등 다양한 갈등 층위를 만들고 괴물화과정의 패러다임으로 캐릭터의 개별 욕망 서사를 구축하여 내러티브를 풍성하게 만들 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 파국서사에서 괴물이 만드는 ‘해체’의 담론을 따르면서도 등장인물들의 연대와 공동체 의식을 강조함으로써 인물들의 성장 서사를 완성하여 기존 크리처물과 차별화할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 은 한국적 크리처물이라는 평가를 받을 수 있었으며 한국 드라마의 새로운 지평을 열고 한국 드라마의 세계적 흥행을 견인하는 마중물이 될 수 있었다.
The global craze of Netflix's original Korean drama in 2021 showed the increased competitiveness and changed status of Korean dramas. With Netflix’s landing in Korea in 2016, Korean dramas set a framework for change, and Netflix original Korean dramas, released in 2019, unleashed their potential with bold and groundbreaking plannings Korean broadcasters have never tried before and by taking advantage of global distribution platforms. The Netflix original Korean drama , released in 2020, awakened the potential of Korean dramas by introducing Creature in full scale for the first time in Korean drama history, and got a good response from viewers not only in Asia but also in the West. Accordingly, this study analyzed the storytelling of in terms of the box office strategy of Netflix original drama and the narrative strategy of the drama using Creature character. The analysis method was first to reveal the characteristics of Netflix original dramas in by applying the three strategies derived from the analysis of Netflix original Asian dramas, glocal characteristics, entertainment characteristics, and seasonal characteristics, as an analysis frame. And second, it is to reveal the behavioral power of conflict formed by Creatures whose human desires have been mutated, how to Creatures build characters' narratives, and the message function of Creatures that create catastrophic narratives. As a result of the study, embodies the localities with episodes of Korean psychological characters known as Han(恨) showing Jeong(情)'s culture and events consisting of Korean social problems and the globalities with a Creature, global popular material and a universal emotion of desire. And secured entertainment elements with an unconventional direction that reinforces of the genre characteristics of horror and action films, and created the possibility of a seasonal system by creating story extension with mystery elements and multi-casting strategies.In addition, by maximizing the conflict factors that can be caused as a Creature character by setting the motif of 'Creatures are created by encroaching on human desires', various layers of conflict such as human-to-human, human-to-society, human-to-world or human-to-nature, as well as internal conflicts, are formed and narratives of the characters' individual desires are constructed by building a paradigm of the monsterization process, which are able to enrich the narrative of drama. Not only that, while following the discourse of ‘dismantling’ created by the monster in the catastrophe narrative, emphasized the characters' solidarity and sense of community, and through that, it was able to complete the growth narrative of the characters to differentiate them from existing Creatures. Through this, was evaluated as a Korean Creatures, and it was able to open a new horizon for Korean dramas and become a priming water that led to the global success of Korean dramas.
