장편영화 <황제를 위하여> 연출과정에 관한 연구 / A Study On Directing of Feature Film

Abstract
ABSTRACTA study on Directing ofFeature film by Park, Sang-JunDepartment of Master of Fine ArtsThe Graduate School of Total Arts, Kookmin University,Seoul, KoreaAdvisor Prof : Kim, Hyun-SungThe long film, , released at the peak summer season of the theatre complex by standing for legitimate action noir genre, resultingly did not gain a commercial success.The researcher, the producer of this move, who made final decision and judgment in the overall direction of this move, and conducted the production process, cannot but strongly feel responsible and miserable according to this. It can be said to be a natural market logic, however as a producer, it is pitiful in the current entertainment field, where only consequentialism and box office principle are getting more severe, that a movie defines all meanings only with audience number and profit. , reached completion through fierce and exhausting cooperation process among those many staffs and actors centered with the producer for a long time, as other long commercial film production process does. In that process, there were several variables, restriction of production conditions, confrontation of opinions among production staff, friction, etc., also, various mediation and solution plan were required. In such process, producer’s final decision and behavior every moment takes definitely important role in progress and final output of movie work. Therefore, the researcher believes that checking the production process by looking back on the production process in the producer’s position enables to prepare trial and error which may again occur in another movie production, henceforth, and have the attitude of more flexible and rational selection when meeting problems. Also, the researcher intended to rearrange from the producer’s viewpoint that how the movie was produced through certain process by stages internally, besides visible external result in this movie.This movie was produced by receiving a request for direction 2 months before shooting of the work which was planned and developed by a production company during a considerable period, not one in which the researcher, the producer, participated from the point of initial planning and scenario development. The researcher considers that such peculiarity of the situation, limitation of producer’s still immature communication process, and immatureness along with insufficient preparation time, etc. somehow influenced the output of the movie. This research can be a comparative reference for the other producers and production staff, who can meet the similar situation of production environment as this, by checking this overall situation by studying the production process case of .
국문초록정통 액션누아르라는 장르를 표방하며 여름 극장가 성수기에 개봉한 장편영화 는 결과적으로 상업적인 성공을 거두진 못한 작품이다. 본 연구자는 이 영화의 전반적인 연출 부분에서 최종 결정과 판단을 내리고 제작과정을 진행해 온 연출자로서 그에 따른 책임과 안타까움을 통감하지 않을 수 없다. 당연한 시장 논리라고 말할 수 있겠지만 갈수록 결과주의와 흥행주의만이 심화 되어가고 있는 현재의 엔터테인먼트 분야에서 한 편의 영화가 오로지 관객 동원수와 수익으로만 모든 의미가 규정되어 지는 것은 연출자로서 아쉬운 부분이다.도 여느 장편 상업영화의 제작과정이 그러하듯이 연출자를 중심으로 수많은 스텝과 배우들이 오랜 기간 나름 치열하고 고단한 협업 과정을 거쳐 완성에 이르렀다. 그 과정에는 여러 변수와 제작 여건의 제약, 제작진들 사이의 의견대립, 마찰 등이 있었고 그에 따른 여러 조율과 해결방안이 필요했었다. 그런 과정에 있어 매 순간 연출자의 최종 판단과 행동은 영화작업의 진행과 최종 결과물에 있어 절대적으로 중요한 역할을 차지한다. 따라서 연출자의 입장에서 지난 제작과정을 되돌아보며 점검해 보는 것은 앞으로의 또 다른 영화 제작에 있어 재차 발생할 수 있는 시행착오에 대비하고 문제 봉착 시에 좀 더 유연하고 합리적인 선택의 자세를 갖게 해 줄 것이라 믿는다. 이 영화의 가시적으로 보이는 외적 결과 외에 내적으로 어떤 과정들을 단계별로 거치며 제작되었는지 연출자의 시각에서 재정리해보고자 한다.이 영화는 연출자인 본 연구자가 최초의 기획 및 시나리오 개발부터 참여한 작품이 아니라 제작사에서 상당 기간 기획, 개발한 작품을 촬영 2개월 전에 연출을 의뢰 받아 제작되었다. 그런 상황의 특이성과 아직은 미성숙한 연출자의 소통 과정에 대한 한계와 준비 시간 부족에 따른 미숙함 등도 어느 정도 영화의 결과물에 영향을 미쳤을 것이라 생각한다. 이런 총체적 상황을 점검하고 이와 비슷한 상황의 제작 환경에 놓일 수 있는 다른 연출자들 및 제작진들이 의 제작과정 사례를 보며 비교, 참고해 볼 수 있을 것이다.
