Abstract
Donguibogam was published in 1613 during Chosun Dynasty and reprinted many times in Korea, China, and Japan. Since after the publication, Donguibogam has become the base of Korean Medical development and Korean oriental medical doctors have made the most use of it for clinical medicine. Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo represents Huh-Jun's medical view though following research on the figure is not enough. In oriental medical development, Taoism and Medicine interact each other and develop into higher grade. I summarized the history of human body figures after searching for Taoistic human body figures and medical ones appeared before Donguibogam.I compared Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo with other medical body figures in the same age and revealed the special features of it. Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo is one of medical human body figures with Taoistic features. it contains the Taoistic body descriptions like "Ni-Hwan-Gung", "Ok-Chim-Kwan", "Noc-Ro-Kwan", and "Mi-Ryeo-Kwan". These names are related to Taoistic trainings like "Tae-sik-bup" and "An-Ma-Do-In" which are being explained in detail in Donguibogam.Huh-Jun put ShinhyungJangbudo in the opening of Donguibogam and allotted the first chapter for it on the book. Through ShinhyungJangbudo, Huh-Jun represented his medical point of view. He emphasized Taoistic training prior to medical treatment and expressed his own idea in the introduction of the book.Donguibogam includes only one profile figure, ShinhyungJangbudo, and doesn't use any other figures. Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo shows the Taoistic training more easily than other figures because the figure is seen from the lateral side of human body, showing the front and the back at the same time. Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo represents the figure of the five viscera and the six entrails, which are described in a suitable way for Oriental Medical Theory of human body. Donguibogam ShinhyungJangbudo shows Huh-Jun's view on medicine and human.
