Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study the effect of cartoons to improve elementary school students' English speaking ability and their interest in learning English.Cartoons were used for teaching materials, for cartoons can make student interested and they are composed of spoken sentences which can be converted into forms of dialogue easily. Besides, they have valuable lessons for students.I tried to teach in a student-centered way. I also tried to make the classroom atmosphere interesting, comfortable, and allowable teaching in English mostly.The result of the research is as follows:1. It's clear that to use cartoons as English teaching materials in elementary school is very effective in many ways.2. The students were developed in participation containing self-confidence and interest, intonation, stress, rhythm greatly rather than vocabulary and the accuracy of grammar.Now there are some suggestions;1. English teachers should use cartoons as teaching materials in elementary school.2. We need to study more materials with high degrees of trust, adequacy and objectivity for the evaluation of English speaking ability.3. Students like to learn by behaving themselves in class. Therefore, it is desirable for teachers to teach them in a student-centered way making the classroom atmosphere interesting and allowable.
