Abstract
During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Nationalist Government kept an eye on the situation on the Korean Peninsula under Japanese rule and used consulates throughout Korea to obtain relevant information for decision-making purposes. The Gazette of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published approximately 302 articles related to Korea between 1928 and 1936, with a focus on “the political trends of the Korean people,” “the actual state of Korean agriculture,” and “the development of Korean industry.” Through relevant reports, the Nationalist Government understood the real living conditions of the Korean people under the surface of agricultural and economic development, and through Japan’s “Northward theory” and “Korean wedge theory”, it saw and clarified Japan’s aggressive plan to enter “Manchuria” with the help of Korea, and realized the close relationship and im portance of the independence of Korea and the integrity of Chinese sovereignty.Furthermore, it firmly supported and assisted the development of the Korean independence movement within China and strengthened cooperation between China and Korea in the War of Resistance Against Japan, while constantly monitoring the situation on the Korean Peninsula to guard against Japan’s ambition to use Korea to advance its mainland policy.
