Effects of Gamification on English Language Learners’ Non-Cognitive Outcomes: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract
This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the influence of gamification on non-cognitive outcomes in English language learning, with a specific focus on South Korea. To accomplish this, a meta-analysis was performed using a random effects model. This analysis encompassed the results from 16 individual case studies across a total of 9 research papers. The findings revealed an average effect size of .565, slightly surpassing the medium effect size. Furthermore, the study investigates the impact of various factors, such as publication type, experimental design, school level, and technology integration, on these outcomes. In summary, this research highlights the significant role of gamification in enhancing non-cognitive outcomes in language learning and emphasizes the necessity of further research into its effects across diverse educational settings.
