Abstract
As an increase in the share of renewable energy (RE), the present practice requires a more friendly operation manner from water electrolysis device (WED) in the viewpoint of high-utilization energy carrier. This, in turn, requires a scheme for the WED interconnection, allowing connection to the system with having to take part in the stabilization effort. Thus, in order to maintain the stability due to sudden disconnection as well as increase or decrease of high capacity WED, necessary control actions are needed. This paper presents a under-frequency load-shedding (UFLS) scheme to WED in order to prevent further grid frequency drop. In doing so, the scheme utilizes a concept of grid self-regulation characteristics. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation studies in the PSCAD/EMTDC environment. The proposed UFLS reduced Nadir by 1.26 Hz due to the sudden change in load and improved the steady-state frequency at 20 seconds by 0.44 Hz. Thus, the simulation shows that the proposed scheme can be feasible and justifiable for the application of different system configurations.
