Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes is a leading cause of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Biomarkers of tubular health may prognosticate chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression beyond estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR). Methods: We examined associations of five urinary biomarkers of tubular injury and repair (NGAL, KIM-1, IL-18, MCP-1, YKL-40) with kidney function decline (first occurrence of a decrease in eGFR [GreaterEqual]30 mL/min/1.73 m[sup.2] if randomization eGFR [GreaterEqual]60 or [GreaterEqual]50% if randomization eGFR Keywords: Mortality, KIM-1, NGAL, MCP-1, YKL-40, IL-18, Diabetic kidney disease
