Abstract
Treatment-limiting Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment may be associated with significantly lower rates of intensive care unit admission compared with full-treatment POLSTs. In 818 decedents with POLSTs hospitalized within six months of death, the rates were 31% for those who indicated 'comfort measures only,' 46% for 'limited additional interventions' and 62% for 'full treatment.'
