Abstract
A study was conducted to evaluate and compare the efficacy of fresh red blood cell (RBC) transfusions as against standard blood bank practice on clinical outcomes in premature, very low-birth-weight infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Results indicated that the use of fresh RBCs did not improve outcomes in the case of premature, very low-birth-weight infants requiring blood transfusions.
