Abstract
A study was conducted to evaluate whether strategies that incorporate training and support of traditional birth attendants help improve perinatal and maternal mortality. Results indicated that such strategies significantly reduced mortality, with perinatal deaths reduced by an average of 24 percent and neonatal deaths by 21 percent.
