Abstract
A study was conducted on a mutation that influences fibril protein, development, cohesion and gene expression in the social prokaryote, Myxococcus xanthus. The findings indicate that the extracellular matrix fibrils may not play a role in later developmental gene expression. Moreover, the results show that intact fibrils may act early in development to promote close cell proximity for signal exchange.
