Abstract
Random House, HyperGlot and Syracuse Language Systems are among a number of companies to have launched foreign language courses based on the use of a new generation of CD-ROMs incorporating advanced speech recognition technology and graphics. These courses force students to concentrate on pronunciation since they are required to pronounce given phrases to the computer's satisfaction in order to be able to proceed to the next stage. The Rosetta Stone Language Library courses are designed to teach students to hear and write the language through the association of images with words and sentences.
