Abstract
UK policy towards training for actors is short-sighted and funding is lacking.Staff at drama schools do not have job-security and schools cannot plan ahead because of financial uncertainty. Students need to take jobs, which make them tired and detracts from their training, and are reputedly malnourishied. Talent is being wasted. Grants depend on local authority policy, not talent. Some give no grants at all to drama students. Policy should be made at national level.
