Abstract
The basic concepts of Leesabu begin with the premise that it should be the pan-national site foreducation pertaining to our maritime territory called Dokdo and the East Sea. Why should we awake and erect Leesabu along the East Sea atthis particular time? Why did we resuscitate the portrait of Leesabu to appear as a general in his late 20s to early 30s? That is to defeat Japan’s ceaseless ambition to invade ‘Dokdo and East Sea’. That is exactly why we should emphasizethe historic evidence that Korea has maintained actual control over Dokdo since Leesabu’s subjugation of Usanguk to incorporate Ulleungdo Dokdo. Reflecting the spirit of the time and the national desire, Leesabu theme park established fives themes: ‘Leesabu and East Sea’ with sub-themes: 1) Leesabu and ancient maritime activities; 2) Ulleungdo, the history of the protection of Dokdo; 3) The ecology and aquatic resources of Dokdo; 4) East Sea materials; 5) Maritime heroes of Korea. The location of Leesabu Theme Park was around Obun port, Samcheock-si, where General Leesabu launched his conquest of Usanguk. The main project area covers the ancient castle in Obun-ri, Obun Port area underneath, Osipcheon Estuary and the opposite land while the subsidiary project area includes neighboring Mangbang, Jangho, Galnam, Gopo, Jeungsan, Chuam to maximize the effect of the maritime experience. The spatial organization of Leesabu Theme Park is divided into: access area, theme area, experience area, play area, accommodation area, rest area, parking area, multi-purpose area andadministrative area, etc. The access area will feature theme-highlighting elements and emotional sights such as symbolic sculptures, etc. In the theme area, there will be a shrine dedicated to the standard national portrait scroll of General Leesabu, theme galleries (exhibition space), performance hall, maritime hero gallery, outdoor theater, etc. The experience area will be divided into indoor and outdoor spaces to house: Leesabu ship's course along the Osipcheon estuary and the wider sea; various indoor virtual reality experiences including the ship's course and visit to Samcheock-Ullengdo-Dokdo. The play area will also be divided into indoorsand outdoorsto allow everyone to enjoy, while the accommodation area is dedicated to group visitors including school excursion groups and various societies, etc. The rest area accommodates a souvenir shop, restaurants and cafes, whereas the multi-purpose area is designed to hold symposiums, lectures, small group activities, and events. The theme park is composed of hardware elements such as entertainment facilities as well as software parts like show events. In fact, a theme park is highly dependent upon events to the degree it is also called 'event land'. Event programs are elements that willoffer special fun and excitement that are appropriate to the theme and are unique to the place. Thus Samcheock si should strive to provide academic fruits on the key subjects of events including Leesabu, East Sea and maritime heroes, while striving to develop a range of contents. Succeeding the pioneering spirit of Leesabu, the Leesabu Theme Park will help to reinforce Korea’s maritime sovereignty and be a platform of national education to lead the era of the ocean, therefore it must be executed as a national project. I think it is ideal for central government not only to directly organize excavation and restoration around Obun Port and Mountain castle, and the Leesabu Theme Park establishment project but also to conductits operation upon completion of the theme park.
