Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the international flow of Olympic Greco-Roman style wrestling based on athletic performance efficiency evaluation of Greco-Roman wrestling which considers changes in economic standards and populations of major countries in the world. To achieve this purpose, 19 major countries were selected at random to mine data on the number of acquired medals per country from 1992 to 2012, country’s population and GNP. To calculate the DEA efficiency measures, EMS software developed by Scheel (2000) was used and CRS model was implemented. Also, the ranking relationship between the number of medals and efficiency was calculated by Spearman’s ρ using SPSS. The results of this research are as follows. One, when evaluating the athletic performance of Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling using population and GNP factors, the highest ranking country was Russia, the followed by Cuba and Sweden. Korea possesses 8thathleticperformancerankinOlympicGreco-Romanwrestling.. Two, according to efficiency analysis using DEA, Korea’s potential to acquire medals in Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling is about two time greater than current performance and the benchmarking countries are Cuba and Armenia.. Three, the Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling performance evaluation according to DEA efficiency is a viable method which reflects the international medal acquirement tendencies in Greco-Roman wrestling.
