The purpose of this study is to understand the current trends of three dimensional design panels and give the appropriate design guidelines of upcoming design direction for three dimensional design panels based on the evaluation of user’s satisfaction. Impressive and interesting design characters for user’s aspect as well as proper information for design ideas would be the most important issues for three dimensional panel design. The research was analyzed with the characteristics of awarded design panels from the Korean interior architectural competition from 2000 to 2012. First of all they are categorized as a two dimensional panel and three dimensional panel and divided into five different types for three dimensional panels as a horizontal panel, ‘L-Shaped panel, C-Shaped panel, O-Shaped panel and free styled panel. In order to have efficient design guidelines, the data was collected through questionnaire surveys from college students who mainly visit architectural exhibitions and analyzed by the statistics. As a result, most of people preferred three dimensional panel instead of two dimensional one and preferred ‘L-Shaped panel’ between three dimensional design panels. Analyzing and classification of three dimensional design panels is meaningful not only for various possibilities of design methods but also for prediction of upcoming development directions.
