Abstract
We highlight that syntactic and semantic mechanisms used for preserving individual privacy in data analysis have various technical shortcomings with respect to the nature of personal data, workflow, and evaluation metrics. We suggest technical guidelines to rectify these shortcomings to meet both privacy and utility expectations.
