Abstract
The IoT solutions are typically customized for particular sensors. Further, these solutions demand compute, storage, and network resources, which have different scales of scalability. An increase in the demand for IoT-based applications makes it difficult for developers to build extensible and scalable IoT applications. The core idea of the paper is to propose an architecture that can be scaled up and down depending on the needs. In our architecture, each service in the cloud can be modified independently and adapted for a different type and number of IoT sensors. We implement the proposed architecture on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud offering from Amazon. We measure the effectiveness of scaling up and down in terms of the number of IoT devices and mobile clients that process data from the IoT devices.
