Abstract
The reliability of the machines depends critically on the insulation system. For very high temperature application (over 250°C), the copper loss in stator windings assembly will increase significantly due to the increase of resistivity. It causes a further temperature rising in the slot which is a great challenge to the winding insulation. Therefore, the winding design and thermal arrangement is vital for high temperature machine. This paper presents an optimized solution for high temperature stator winding which is based on inorganic insulation technologies and forced air cooling technique, investigating winding arrangement effects on total copper losses and minimizing winding temperature rise through improved cooling design.
