Abstract
A plastic Optical fiber(POF) AC voltage sensor based on a polymer dispersed liquid crystal(PDLC) is investigated. The Configuration of the POF AC voltage sensor is a POF including a rectangular hole filled with a PDLC film. The size of the rectangular hole and the PDLC film used in the experiment are 2 mm x 0.65 mm and 20 mm x 0.6 mm, respectively. The transmittance of the POF AC voltage sensor was proportional to the amplitude of the applied AC voltage and the relation between the amplitude of the applied voltage and the transmittance was approximately linear. The sensitivity was about 0.015 V −1 . This research results show that the POF AC voltage sensor based on the PDLC can be used to measure the amplitude of AC voltage.
