Abstract
The sharp focusing of laser radiation is widely used in many optical devices: photolithography, confocal microscopy, optical memory disks, and optical micromanipulation. Using the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld vector theory, the longitudinal and transverse energy distributions were studied under sharp focusing of terahertz laser radiation in free space. The calculations were performed for the radiation corresponding to the wavelength of the CW optically pumped HCOOH laser 432.6 μm. We studied wave beams excited by modes for resonators based on metal and dielectric waveguides. The similarities and differences in the focusing of beams of such waveguide resonators were analyzed. The obtained results provide information on the features of sharp focusing of laser beams in the THz range.
