Abstract
The variability in the actual solar production from its average for a dispatch interval may be significant during morning and evening ramps due to the diurnal nature of solar production. This variability needs to be assessed to design appropriate mechanisms to mitigate it. This paper discusses a framework to decompose imbalances introduced due to intra-dispatch interval variability into two components, considering the causes due to which they manifest. The framework is applied to actual field data of daily solar generation profiles for a year of 1- min resolution. Studies suggests that relatively slower component can be identified from the noisy fluctuations and should be handled separately so that the burden of the frequency regulation services will be relieved.
