Abstract
The recently developed Bruhn optical flow method has been found to improve imagery analysis results but has yet to be tested for cloud tracking purposes. We propose a cloud tracking model that is based on the Bruhn method and compare its performance with models based on more conventional optical flow methods. For lead-times spanning from 5s to 600s, the Bruhn based model has a comparable tracking accuracy when contrasted with current methods yet achieves a better than 30% improvement in computing processing time. We conclude that the Bruhn method represents a promising method for use in cloud tracking models.
