Abstract
This article describes a method to estimate the energy savings achieved applying energy saving techniques when transmitting a file over a bus. The developed method uses data extracted from simulations on a narrow three lines bus and expands them to calculate the consumption in wider buses in an efficient way. In this way it is possible to calculate the energy consumption with a similar accuracy as if it was calculated by electronic simulators such as Spice. In the article, the achieved accuracy is analyzed and its validity is established. The proposed method has been applied on a specific energy saving technique (Odd/even bus invert) and the estimated savings has demonstrated the benefit of using this method. Furthermore, the described method is easily implementable in other energy saving techniques.
