Abstract
The key factor for the success of Dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems on the medical imaging market is the optimization of the magnet geometry with respect to the anatomical region that has to be scanned. This leads to the design of compact magnetic structures which do not need the whole body of the patient to be inserted inside the cavity. A further step in this direction can be made considering non axially symmetric volumes for the field homogeneity evaluation, which can be more easily conformed to most of the districts of the human body (e.g. extremities). In this paper an analysis on the design of an electromagnet aimed at the hand examination is outlined.
