Abstract
The application of advanced controls for environmental remediation are described. The limitations of existing proportional, integral and derivative (PID) and adaptive control strategies are reviewed, and an adaptive control system used on several recent projects is described. The adaptive mechanism used, and the degree to which the control scheme adapts to the process, result in a wide variety of adaptive process controllers. The results of field applications in mercury reclaim and sulfur recovery are presented.ETX
