Abstract
Silver-sheathed Bi/sub 2/Sr/sub 2/Ca/sub 1/Cu/sub 2/O/sub x/ tapes were fabricated through the powder-in-tube method. By means of a one-step isothermal heat-treatment, critical current densities of a technical level could be achieved at 4.2 K: 7.8*10/sup 4/ A/cm/sup 2/ in a zero magnetic field and more than 10/sup 4/ A/cm/sup 2/ up to fields of 20 T. The correlation between structural features of the 2212 phase such as the lattice parameter, the degree of texturing, the grain morphology, and the critical characteristics of the tapes was investigated. The prospects of future enhancement of J/sub c/ are discussed.ETX
