Abstract
When decentralized fixed modes occur in a set of interconnected subsystems then complete pole assignment or stabilization (if they are unstable) is not possible. In this brief paper we present a way of choosing a new structure for the feedback matrix such that the fixed modes are eliminated and such that the exchange of information among subsystems is reduced. The fixed modes are characterized here by means of block diagonally dominant matrices. The procedure is illustrated on two examples.
