Abstract
The rapid proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) has ignited global interest in its potential to reshape industries and improve daily life. This phenomenon, however, presents unique challenges when adopted in developing countries, such as Ethiopia. This paper delves into the specific challenges faced by Ethiopia in embracing IoT technology and offers insights into potential solutions. The study investigates socio-economic constraints arising from limited financial resources, low digital literacy rates, and inadequate awareness. It scrutinizes technological hurdles, including the scarcity of skilled IT professionals, infrastructural deficits, and challenges in research and development capacity. Additionally, the paper analyzes regulatory and policy complexities, encompassing outdated regulations, data privacy concerns, and cybersecurity gaps. The study draws from case studies and success stories worldwide to extract practical lessons applicable to Ethiopia's context. By providing tailored recommendations, the paper aims to guide policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers in navigating the intricacies of IoT adoption in developing countries like Ethiopia. Through strategic interventions, collaborative efforts, and a commitment to overcoming challenges, Ethiopia can unlock the transformative potential of IoT and foster sustainable development.
