Abstract
Many facilities are upgrading their infrastructures to deliver high intensity Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs) (10 6 pps or higher). RIBs are at the frontier in nuclear physics experiments, also having potential in interdisciplinary applications, especially in medical physics. We are designing a novel detection system for RIBs diagnostics and tagging based on an array of Silicon Carbide detectors and on custom frontend electronics at present designed to cope with the specifications of the new fragment separator, FRAgment In-fligth SEparator (FraISe), presently under construction at INFN-LNS in Catania (Italy). In this contribution we introduce the design conception of the proposed system and we present and critically analyse the results of the first experimental qualification of the individual components.
