Abstract
Urban air mobility (UAM) is considered a promising solution for on-demand air transportation between airports and urban areas. However, an increase in the volume of UAM flights in the vicinity of airports poses challenges to existing aircraft and air traffic control systems. To address this concern, the concept of UAM corridors, defined as three-dimensional airspace volumes, have been proposed. Nonetheless, the specific design considerations for UAM corridors have not been sufficiently elucidated. This paper investigates the potential constraints influencing the design of UAM corridors and presents several illustrative design examples. The objective is to propose the maximum available airspace for flying UAMs so that maximum number of UAM flights can approach an airport. Furthermore, by thoroughly examining this problem, this paper aims to contribute to the realization of efficient and reliable on-demand transportation using UAM.
