Abstract
This paper discusses a tightly coupled ultra-wideband antenna array with a 15:1 (0.8-12 GHz) operating bandwidth based on frequency selective surfaces. The design extends the bandwidth by tightly coupling the butterfly dipole antenna to form an antenna array, adding two additional FSS layers between the dipole radiator and the floor, introducing a shorting sheet to transfer the common mode resonance to other frequency bands, and using a tapered balun feed structure. The design achieves Active VSWR
